Prepare a hostname
Use a subdomain you control, not the bare organization domain, and make sure you or your IT team can edit its DNS records. Private survey link domains affect hosted links only; sending email from your own domain is configured separately.
Connect and validate the domain
Add the hostname
Open Admin → Domains → Private Survey Link Domain and choose Add domain.
Publish the CNAME
Copy the exact name and unique d-….domains.dayalogs.com target shown by Dayalogs. Do not substitute an A record or TXT challenge.
Let Dayalogs finish
Validation retries every five minutes for up to twelve hours. Once DNS is found, Dayalogs provisions HTTPS automatically and the domain becomes active when its certificate is ready.
Certificate renewal remains automatic. A manual recheck starts a fresh validation run when you have corrected DNS.
Choose the domain on a LinkSet
Nothing moves automatically. Select an active domain when creating or editing a compatible LinkSet; its links and any campaign or embed that delivers them then use that hostname. Existing links keep their current host so a URL already sent to respondents never changes silently.
Dates, quotas, cookie protection and link context behave exactly as they do on a Dayalogs-hosted URL.
Keep the CNAME in place
Dayalogs checks active CNAMEs periodically. Two temporary failures are tolerated; a third consecutive failure makes the hostname unavailable. Restore the exact CNAME and request a recheck to resume the normal DNS and certificate flow. Dayalogs does not delete the certificate during a DNS outage.
Disable or delete safely
Disabling removes the hostname from new LinkSet choices and makes its survey URLs unavailable without deleting history. Permanent deletion is available only after the domain is disabled and every live LinkSet using it has been stopped or moved. The disabled paper-bin action explains which survey and LinkSet still blocks removal.
Deletion runs in the background and remains in Deleting until the web server and certificate cleanup completes.
